ATM Error Codes Start Here

Short version: match the code, try the fastest fix, then check the likely part. If it’s not one of the big three below, use the full lookup tool.

What are the ATM errors?

They’re terminal/device codes raised by modules like the cash dispenser, printer, keypad, or card reader. They point to things like misfeeds, blocked sensors, bad cables, or a device that’s offline. For deeper issues or firmware updates, see ATMTrader’s Software Downloads and Menu Navigation support pages.

Common causes we see across brands: jammed or poor-quality notes, overfilled cassettes, dirty sensors, loose harnesses, or outdated CDU firmware. Hyosung and Genmega service docs call out these exact patterns (miss-feeds, jams, sensor faults).

Start here: quick index

  • 390 — Dispenser offline
Try a proper shutdown/restart, confirm dispenser status lights, then test. If it persists, the dispenser may need service.
  • 211 — Replay from dispenser invalid
Reseat/inspect dispenser cables, then full power-down and restart. If it returns, the dispenser can be at fault.
  • 207 — SPED not detected
Check the J7A→SPED board cable and voltages; reboot; replace the SPED board only if cabling and power are good.

What is the ATM response code?

Different thing. Response codes are network/host results (ISO 8583 field 39), e.g., 00 Approved, 05 Do Not Honor—they come from the issuer, not the machine, and don’t mean your hardware is broken.

How are ATM errors resolved?

Use this order of operations:

  1. Record the code and the step that triggered it.
  2. Proper shutdown/restart from the admin menu. Many dispenser faults clear here.
  3. Reseat cables & modules the code references (dispenser, SPED, printer, keypad).
  4. Clear jams/purge & test-dispense; check cassette fill/notes.
  5. Check firmware & parameters via the support tools.
  6. Swap the likely part (see below) if errors persist.

What issue is commonly found in the maintenance of ATM cash?

Note quality and loading cause most headaches: skewed or worn bills, overfilled cassettes, dust on sensors, or mis-seated gates lead to rejects/mis-dispense faults. Service bulletins explicitly tell you to check notes, clear jams, and clean sensors when you see cassette misfeeds or detect-bill errors.

Parts to check for the big three

  • 390 Dispenser offline → check dispenser power/data harness, run test-dispenses; if recurring, you may need a dispenser assembly or board service.
  • 211 Replay invalid → reseat dispenser cables; if repeat, suspect the dispenser mechanism.
  • 207 SPED not detected → inspect J7A→SPED cable, verify DC voltages, then consider the SPED board.

Quick fixes owners can perform

  • Power down via the menu, not the switch; wait 10 seconds before restarting.
  • Pull the cassette, fan and re-stack notes, don’t overfill, check orientation.
  • Blow out dust in the dispenser path; verify sensors aren’t blocked.
  • Run a test dispense and confirm the error clears.

If you just updated software, re-check CDU firmware and parameters.
